FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Crestview Golf Club and the Waldport Chamber of Commerce are quite pleased with the results of their recent fundraiser to support the Chamber. On Saturday, August 15th forty golfers participated in a 4 person scramble format. To offer a COVID-safe event, the format was changed from the typical shot-gun start to a staggered approach with foursomes teeing-off one at a time between 2-5 pm.
After partnering with the Chamber on this event for over a decade, Crestview Golf Club owner Mark Campbell wants to “thank all of the volunteers that make it happen, as well as the sponsors. This type of commitment really helps support our community.” The golf club has been very generous to the community over the years. In fact, last year they helped raise over $22,000 for area non-profits.
Waldport Mayor and Chamber Board Member, Susan Woodruff reflected on the event, “Thanks to Crestview Golf Club management for innovative recreation of our Chamber Golf Tournament in the times of COVID-19! Everyone reported having a good time in spite of restrictions, and community support continues to be awesome, making this the most successful event in some time!
Thirteen sponsors supported the event with contributions ranging from $100-$1000 each. As a new business to Waldport, WAVE was the “Championship” sponsor along with 4 “Eagle” sponsors: Coldwell Banker Professional Group, DAHL Disposal, Pacific West Ambulance and Samaritan Health Services. The putting competition was supported by Pioneer Connect. Additional event sponsors included: Alsea Bay Center for the Arts, Alsea Bay Power Products, Bisnett Insurance, Columbia Bank, the Grady Family and Joseph S. Vandehey Construction.
Wave Broadband’s Sr. Director of Sales and Marketing Michelle Ramler said “WAVE, which is making a major investment to bring high-speed gigabit internet service to Waldport for the first time, was proud to sponsor the Chamber tournament and field teams for the event.”
Funds were also raised through the Chamber selling “team string,” mulligans, raffle tickets and putting contest opportunities. Prizes were donated by Agate Beach Golf Course, Azul, Bay View Thai Kitchen Chris Cavanagh Construction, Coldwell Banker Professional Group, Crestview Golf Club, Eager Beaver, Fresh Mex, Gracie’s Sea Hag, Grand Central, High School Pharmacy, The Horn, Mazatlan-Depoe Bay, Overleaf Lodge, Pioneer Connect, Ray’s, Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County ReStore, Salon 34, Sea Dawg, Sea Note, Sweet Homes Vacation Getaways, Yachats Brewing and Waldport Liquor Store.
Eric Freyman, golfer and putting contest winner, enjoyed the event, “the generosity shown by the local business community and the genuine, heart-felt support offered by the Waldport Chamber created a wonderful atmosphere to meet new friends and network among great people who simply engaged to support this great community. I look forward to an even larger turnout next year to help the Chamber further grow the resources it desperately needs to match its desire to support Waldport’s future. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make this a great event for all!”
In total, over $5500 was raised for the Chamber, including more than $1000 coming directly from Crestview Golf Club. “This was my first year participating in and facilitating the tournament. It was great to work with the team at Crestview, and receive such wide-spread and generous support from our community and business leaders. Given that we didn’t even know if we could pull-off an event this summer, that we far exceeded revenue from past tournaments is a testament to our strong community support, and we are truly grateful,” stated Waldport Chamber Executive Director, Laura Furgurson. Chamber Board Member Jamie Michel concurred, “Think of what we can accomplish in a non-COVID environment!”
The Waldport Chamber’s next COVID-safe community event will be Crusin’ for Crab on Saturday, September 26th. For event details and sponsorship opportunities, please go to FindYourselfInWaldport.com or call 541-815-0400.
